Crook County Circuit Court Overview
Oregon's circuit courts are the state's trial courts, with one circuit court in each county. Crook County Circuit Court hears the local state-court matters that move through Oregon Judicial Department systems. Those include criminal cases, civil cases, family law, probate and protective proceedings, juvenile matters where access is allowed by law, small claims, landlord-tenant matters, traffic violations, protective orders, and other filings assigned to the trial court.
The court moved to the Crook County Justice Center effective October 28, 2024. That move is important for records users because older listings may still show the historic courthouse or county offices on NE Third Street. Current Circuit Court business, hearings, records, filings, and customer-service access should be checked against the official court page before a visit.

Crook County does not have multiple numbered district courts. The local state trial court is one Circuit Court serving the county. Circuit Court vs County Court
Several court-like names appear in Crook County research, but they do not mean the same thing. Circuit Court is the Oregon trial court. County Court is a county-government body, not the state trial court for ordinary case searches. Municipal court functions may exist for city-code matters where applicable, and OJD states that municipal, county, justice, federal, and tribal courts are outside the state-funded Oregon court system.

Crook County Circuit Case Flow
Case flow depends on the type of filing. Criminal cases usually begin after investigation, arrest, citation, or a filed charging document, then move through first appearances, arraignment, pretrial events, plea or trial, disposition, sentencing, and any appeal. Civil and family cases begin with a complaint or petition, service, response, motions, hearings, possible trial, judgment, and post-judgment events.

Crook County Case Types
Crook County Circuit Court case types include criminal, civil, small claims, landlord-tenant, family, probate, protective proceedings, juvenile where permitted, traffic violations, and protective-order cases. Traffic violations are handled through the Crook County Circuit Court Violations Bureau when filed there. Probate matters are routed through the Probate Division or protective-proceedings side of the Circuit Court, not a separate local probate court.
- Criminal: felony and misdemeanor cases prosecuted by the Crook County District Attorney.
- Civil: complaints, answers, motions, judgments, small claims, landlord-tenant, liens, and related filings.
- Family: divorce, separation, annulment, custody, parenting time, support, and protective matters.
- Probate: estates, wills, guardianship, conservatorship, inventories, accountings, and orders.
- Traffic: violations punishable by fine, not imprisonment, through the Violations Bureau.
Crook County Circuit Records
Circuit Court records are searched through OJD systems. The free online portal provides limited case information and does not require registration for basic search, but it is not the official ORS 7.020 register. OJCIN Online provides subscription access to OECI for circuit and tax courts and ACMS for appellate records. Crook County also provides a public OJCIN computer in the courthouse lobby for statewide circuit case information and most filed documents in most cases.
Copy requests can be made through the online Crook Copy Request Form or by printed form submitted by mail, fax, or in person at the customer-service window. Court staff calculates total cost after the request and requires payment before copies are made. Older case files that have not been digitized may require retrieval.
Crook County Specialty Courts
Crook County Treatment Court is a Circuit Court program for moderate- to high-risk participants with addiction-related needs. The program includes screening, observation of Recovery Court, acceptance by the Treatment Court Judge, four phases, random drug and alcohol testing, treatment and support-group verification, and twice-monthly court sessions. The program is scheduled for 18 months, though some participants need more time.
DUII diversion is another important local court path. Federal Courts Near Crook
Crook County is in the federal District of Oregon. Federal criminal, civil, civil rights, federal-question, diversity, prisoner, and bankruptcy cases are not held by Crook County Circuit Court. They are searched through federal court sites, PACER, and CM/ECF. The U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Oregon are separate from Oregon state circuit courts.

Crook County Circuit Appeals
Most appeals from Crook County Circuit Court go to the Oregon Court of Appeals. The Oregon Supreme Court is the highest state court and handles discretionary review of many Court of Appeals decisions, direct review in selected matters, and statewide rule and administrative duties. OJCIN and ACMS can provide appellate access for subscribers, while appellate records are handled through the Oregon appellate records office.
